PropScan® Pitch Verification & Performance Modifications

PropScan®.. PUT YOUR PROPELLERS TO THE TEST !

Optimum vessel performance can only occur when the available horsepower is efficiently transmitted into propulsion. Maximising propeller blade pitch accuracy will ensure your vessel achieves full performance potential, improved fuel efficiency and the ultimate in smooth operation.

Propeller pitch accuracy has historically been a difficult task to complete, primarily because manual measurement tools could only measure at specific predetermined points, at any given blade radii. Areas outside and between these specific points therefore cannot be easily measured or accurately modified and verified.

PropScan® computerised pitch measuring equipment can ensure radial pitch accuracy and blade surface geometry can be consistently and continuously measured using a probe which rotates over the blade surface and feeds measured pitch data (for every degree of rotation), directly into the computer for detailed analysis. Accuracy as close as 0.001” mean pitch is possible and propellers can be modified to a higher ‘CLASS’ of accuracy as defined by ISO 484/2 (the international standard of propeller classification).

Additionally such pitch data measurement allows customers to view modifications ‘BEFORE & AFTER’ changes are made, as well as providing detailed quality assurance reporting of the actual final pitch and blade surface geometry achieved. Detailed records of all measurements taken allow propellers to be reproduced accurately and exactly in the future, and pairs of propellers can be custom matched to each other.

Such technology allows damaged propellers to be accurately repaired and good propellers to be modified  to higher tolerances of blade accuracy. Both premium Nibral and standard Manganese bronze propellers can be modified to higher CLASS tolerances.

The modification of existing good propellers, to exact specifications of your vessel and to higher pitch / blade surface tolerances can produce the following performance advantages :

bullet

Smoother, quieter vessel operation

bullet

Increased speeds throughout the full rev range

bullet

Increased fuel efficiency

bullet

Greater acceleration & reverse thrust

bullet

Improved planning ability at lower revs

bullet

Improved propeller life due to lower blade pressure loadings

bullet

Reduced cavitation and blade slippage

bullet

Synchronised engine performance

Also the strong reporting and documentation functions of  the PropScan® measurement system allows :

bullet

Documented sizing reports for inclusion in your vessel’s ongoing log.

bullet

Full repeatability of modifications to new propellers, future repairs and/or spares.

bullet

Pitch accuracy reporting guaranteed to meet required ISO Class pitch tolerances.

bullet

Comparison to previously documented measurement.
